MY STORY
Margarita Williams
I am a Hebridean artist, and graduate of Glasgow School of Art.
My work in watercolour is inspired by the unique lanscape, sea, and wild flowers of Harris, Lewis and St Kilda, I live in the remote village of Quidinish (Cuidhtinis) where I was born. A Gaelic speaker, I welcome you to my Studio Gallery, Holmasaig.
CV
Margarita Williams studied at the Glasgow School of Art. Her work there using dyes in textile design led to her interest in using the transparent medium of watercolour.
Acrylic and mixed media ..some 3D paperworks and Japanese woodblock printing feature in her recent work.
After art teaching in scottish schools and bringing up family, Margarita returned to her roots in Quidinish in the beautiful Bays of Harris where she now has her studio/gallery, open to the public for six months of the year.
The inspiration for her work is the unique landscape of Harris and the Hebrides, it's crofting environment, sea and wild flowers of Machair and Bogs.
In 2014 She was awarded the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Assoc/France residency in Collioure Roussillon.
She exhibits in the Hebrides and occasionaly on the mainland. People visiting Harris find their way to her studio in a remote location and buy artwork to take to countries all over the world.
